Ancient Sumeria - Was it a Civilization?

This week in Humanities you will have the chance to collaborate in a group and answer the essential question "What is a civilization?".
Historians believed that Sumer is one of the first examples of an Ancient Civilization - your task is to find evidence to support this theory!
All the information you need has been sent to the Grade 6 Humanities folder.
Take some time to review the grading rubrics and information.
Good Luck!

Early Humans - The Ultimate Survivor

Last week in Grade 6 Humanities we began our Early Humans Social Studies unit. I am sure that your are enjoying watching the video "Ultimate Survivors" just as much as Mrs. Reiser and I am.

It's amazing to think that there were so many different species of Early Humans, ranging in size from 7 feet tall to less than 4 feet tall!

We really are lucky that fire was discovered and that Homo Robustus began cooking the meat that he had hunted. Chewing for 5 hours would take up most of the day.

One of the "Essential Questions" for Grade 6, Early Humans unit is :-
"How does the past affect the present and the future".

Can you explain how Early Man has affected our lives today?

Merdeka Day Fireworks  Posted by Picasa

Happy Merdeka Day Malaysia

I am sitting at home on Merdeka Day working on our Blogging lesson for next week. I feel very proud and extremely lucky to be living in such a great place as Malaysia. The weather, the opportunity to experience and learn from three very diverse cultures; Malay, Indian and Chinese.
This morning I went shopping to Ampang Point and it was amazing to see so many Malaysian Flags decorating cars & shop fronts.
Malaysians are truly proud of their country and its achievements.

Welcome to 6 Humanities Green @ ISKL

Grade 6 Students !! Do you know what the latest craze is world wide?

MMM.. Not Green Day or Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Mr. Boniface's singing or Domino's Pizza!

It's BLOGGING!

What's BLOGGING?

"Blogging" began in the late 1990's when people began to publish their thoughts and diaries on the World Wide Web for other people to read and reply to. The original name for this genre of writing was "WEBLOG".
Over time, WEBLOG has morphed into the word BLOG! BLOGS used in schools have a special name - EDUCATIONAL BLOGS ( or EDU-BLOGS).

What can you do with a BLOG?

Blogs have many different purposes - this is our class blog and the main aim is to share class information not only amongst ourselves , but also with Mom & Dad and your friends. Our Blog will also be used for homework, examples of excellence and also to show pictures and maybe even short movies!

Just like you I have a goal for this year!

My goal is for every 6th Grader to start their own blog, and begin to record their ideas, feelings , funny jokes and pictures with each other!

HAPPY BLOGGING
